Nepal is a mountainous country in the southwest of China. It is mountainous and has suitable climatic conditions, which is very suitable for the cultivation of tea. The history of tea planting in Nepal has been very long. Before a long time, Nepalese people had mastered the cultivation techniques of tea. In recent years, with the continuous development of world trade, the export volume of tea in Nepal has also increased, and the tea trade has developed rapidly.
Nepal
According to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics of Nepal, from April 2017 to April this year, Nepal’s tea exports amounted to 3 billion Nepalese rupees (about 30 million US dollars).
Statistics show that there are 14 counties in Nepal engaged in tea production. There are more than 9,000 tea gardens in the country, with an area of over 12,000 hectares and an annual output of 2.2 million tons of tea. Nepal currently produces three varieties of tea: red broken tea, traditional black tea and green tea.
The Bureau of Statistics said that the main problem facing the development of the tea industry in the country is that the interests of tea farmers are not effectively protected. At present, Nepalese tea farmers can only sell green tea raw materials at about 1/3 of the market price, and the price per kilogram of green tea raw materials is as low as 25 rupees (about 25 cents).
At present, the Nigerian government adopts a minimum price protection policy for agricultural products such as rice and sugar, but tea is not included. Industry professionals called on the government to develop a scientific pricing mechanism to protect the interests of tea farmers to promote the rapid development of the tea industry.
